Hello everyone, I'm back from a long hiatus.

Months ago, I found this 100 gallon tank plus/stand on VarageSale.com for only $50! Though there were no visible cracks, I didn't' expect it would hold water, but bought it anyhow. I filled it with water yesterday, and no leaks!
After a bit of research, I believe that it is a reef tank? I will be using it for freshwater S.A. biotope. Measurements are 72"x18"x18" with glass near 1/2" thick. The stand is extra short, so I will be building a stand. This will be a slow build, but I promise not as slow as Compass's "Robs Rapid River". lol

Question#1- Would #2 Aqua Clear 110 be adequate filtration?

Question#2- Stand- I need the stand to be 36" high to rise above the couch it will be placed behind. Would that be a safe height, or too high?"

    All input greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Lucky you on that deal. I would think the 2 Aqua Clear 110 should be enough depending on the stocking of your tank. As for the height I am not sure I had a 240 gall. on a 60 in tall stand. I had it behind a bar and needed to keep people's hands out of it. Never had a problem with it (was also on a concrete floor). If the floor is solid and no animals or people are going to be bumping it it you should be fine. You also could give it a bigger footprint on the floor to help stabilize it. Just my thoughts though

Glad to have you back and congrats on your find . This is only my opinion ,but if you build your stand STURDY enough and place it LEVEL ,I don't see why it couldn't be 3 feet high . Again , glad to have you back and I would build it as high as you need it . IF it is built with material strong enough you should have no problem. 2x8 yellow pine is very strong , IMO.
ask ?'s and change some water pair of JD's and loving it.

Thanks steeler58 (forgot your real name).
This will actually be my first journal, and Cardinal tetras will be the centerpiece. I currently have 31 cards,12 bloodfin,6 black neons.

I've lost most of what I had learned from here, and need some help before making purchase of new filter and building materials.
Any help with the questions I made above^ would be helpful. I'd like to order a filter today and go to Lowes to purchase materials.
(mta:Sorry I failed to see the two posts after steeler)

If you're buying new filters I would highly recommend the sunsun 304b. Been great for me and you can get them cheap.

    Thanks Gar.
Doe you or anyone no where or what I could look at that would give me specs on flooring etc., as to know if I should shore the floor up?

Thanks elty. Happy to be back. You mentioned 2x8's? Ive looked at some plans. and saw only 2x4 construction and planned on using them. Store bought stands use 1x2 mostly. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong to use 2x4's.

I have seriously considered that but I'm not sure I want one. I love the simplicity of the 110 and have #1 currently.

If you are comfortable with the AC110s, then 2 of them will be fine.

2x4's are what I built my stand from. 36" high will be just fine.

Lots of DIY videos out there for building a stand, this is similar to my build...:

Definitely go with a filter you are comfortably with. as far as floor specs I am not a architect but I have found that placing my tanks across multiple support board is the best way to go.
