FB pages surely do put a hurtin on the ol' vbulletin forums. I like my local FB aquarium group purely for the classifieds and to chat up other local fishkeepers, but the info on their pages isn't very reliable.

I agree I'd much rather be here than FB, the wife has hounded me that I should open my own FB account but I don't like what I have seen with facebook as far as school use and bulling.

Mrs. Slap's FB has come in handy, a few times...there's a neighborhood watch FB page for our town, which is useful for info about what's going on here locally

Other than that, I don't need to know about the minutiae that goes on in anyone else's lives...I've plenty of my own to deal with.

I think a big advantage of a place like the AC is that you get to know the people providing answers, which makes the answers more trustworthy. On FB advice tends to be more anonymous in nature, so you don't know if the person providing it is trustworthy or not.

I have a FB account but never go into it. When I first opened it years ago I quickly found people I hadn't spoken to in years. I thought it was cool to reconnect with all these people and friended them. And then I realized why I hadn't spoken to them in all that time. So now I have a FB page full of people I don't really want to talk to. There are many other means to stay in touch with the people I want to stay in touch with.

Too accurate Goldie... I always say I'm gonna delete mine, but every time I seriously think about it, something pops up that makes it semi useful again. I definitely prefer Mrs Slaps "Fishbook" we have here! :)

hahahaha -- yeah, this. I've mostly avoided that aspect by simply not friending (or accepting) those old friends that I wasn't already in communication with.

However, I use (or used to, should say) FB for keeping in touch with extended family. All was fine and good until a pair of teenage siblings -- our nephew and niece -- gained accounts (I guess their parents let them). I suppose kids simply post A LOT of ... just ... stuff. Maybe even to cover all their 'hidden' posts, I suppose. (Those that are private or whatever.) Anyhow, I very quickly wondered how I could 'gently' unfriend them.

Turns out, me not logging into FB at all is pretty much for the best.

I have to also agree with Goldie.
I joined FB when I was in college to keep in touch with my class mates, now there is just to much drama I don't need to hear about.
I belong to a couple other fish forums and this one is by far the most active.
