Yeah blue gill have never really seen worth it to me because of their need for such larger tank size. It would be cool to have a fish native to me but I just don't have the room or the money for such a large tank. If you can post pictures. I would like to see what it looks like. :)

It certainly appears to be a bluegill, which are indeed very aggressive when housed more than one to a tank, even a male female pair can be trouble in a smaller tank, as the male builds a nest and attracts the female long enough to lay eggs then he fertilizes them and guards the nest like a bulldog.

For future reference, here is a good guide for the ID of sunfish species.

Your state has quite a few natives that can be kept comfortably in smaller aquaria, The pygmy sunfish and least darter can be mature at less than an inch in length. However for a larger selection of likely candidates check out >

    or

I have bought many fish from both and been very happy with the prices and excellent shipping.

One of my favorites for smaller tanks is the Blue Spotted Sunfish

this fish only reaches 9.5cm = 3.74 inches at full growth and is very docile, also it does great in a heavily planted tank, and has a great personality.
