    Question Growing Fish

    Hello Friends!
When I went to a local aquarium store in town they had some silver dollar and angelfish. They had very large ones which looked really appealing to me but I saw that they had some smaller ones. If I get the smaller ones would they eventually get to the size of the larger ones. I've heard rumors about fish not getting to larger sized based off of their tank size. I have a 30 gallon and if I got some smaller like 2 inch angelfish would they eventually grow to their full size of 6 inches? Thanks for helping out a newbie I appreciate it!

For a 30g tank, I would just get one angel because yes, it would eventually get to a larger size. But that depends on its environment - maintaining proper water parameters, feeding appropriately and having compatible tank mates. It's fun to get them young and watch them grow and you may see plenty of room in your tank right now for 2-3 small ones. But you have to consider both the adult size of the fish and their temperament.

I have one angel as a "centerpiece" fish in a 25g tank with rummy nose tetras and cories. I started with 2 (before I knew better) and they paired up, did some breeding, and eventually I lost the female. There was a lot of aggression both before and just after mating.

Fish are stunted by water quality, not tank size. They still need a tank large enough for their full size though.

fish can also get stunted by stress which can be caused by the environment like too small of a tank size or constantly being harassed by other fish

It is better to get any fish smaller and let it grow to its full size because then it will become used to the tank. For 30g get one small angel and let it grow.
