    Default Dwarf Honey Gourami sick?

    0 Not allowed!
I have 1 molly, 2 platies, and two honey gouramis. i have had my 10 gallon tank setup and my fish for 2 weeks now. one honey gourami from the beginning has been hiding, and not eating much. Today it came out from under the rock tunnel and was laying on the bottom of the tank. It also looked like its abdomen was swollen and the fish is pale compared to the vibrant red and blue of the other gourami. I moved the sick gourami to a smaller quarantine tank, which has fresh water if the disease is ammonia poisoning. I also read if the disease is dwarf gourami disease, there is nothing i can do for the fish and the other one probably has it to. Am i doing the right thing, is this the case, and is there anything else i can do because i really want him to live!

    Welcome to the AC.

Did you cycle the tank before adding fish?

How do you test your water?...what are your ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph readings?

What water conditioner do you use?

The lady at the pet store said to let the tank filter for 3-4 days with the conditioner (nutrafin aqua plus) and optimizer (TLC for freshwater aquariums), so that's what i did. Not sure if that is considered cycling. another person at the pet store said not to mess with the ph or other chemicals because they are difficult to keep stable. I have hard, acidic water.

Also I am treating the water for ich, because some of the other fish have it but not the gouramis. The sick gourami has been acting weird since i initially put him in the tank, compared to the other one, but just noticeably got worse. he hardly ever came out to eat. The other fish are doing fine, (eating and very active), except for the ich, which is clearing up. One more thing that could have happened is: the temp had stayed at a steady 74 degrees for a while, but when i added new water during the night the heater heated the water to 80 degrees, which i finally got back down to 74. I moved the sick gourami to a small plastic tank so the other fish dont pick at him.

Yes, it sounds like this tank is not cycled...read and re-read this until it is perfectly clear, you will have to do a fish-in cycle: http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/aqua...ad.php?t=36492

I have no idea about those 2 chemicals that were recommended to you, but they are not needed

What IS needed is a good water test kit, like this one that many of us use: http://www.amazon.com/API-Freshwater.../dp/B000255NCI

And you also need a good water conditioner, you will be doing many, many water changes during the cycle...here is a great product many of us here use: http://www.amazon.com/Seachem-116043.../dp/B00025694O

But first, read the cycling sticky I linked for you above...and good luck!
