Adding to my setup? Suggestions?
0
This is my 15 gallon setup so far. It has anubias, java ferns, sword grass, canadian pondweed, some moss balls and lots of frogbit. I'm thinking of switching my white sand to black, because white sand tends to get a yellow tint and it's starting to look run down, or any black substrate that looks nice really. Any suggestions for other plants I could add to really fill up the bottom space and all the other negative space I have left?

I got that wood piece from outside, I got really lucky, it was a rare find.
I have a firebelly newt in there too, on the log on the left

Also a beginner but I would recommend a black background. It made a huge difference for me and really made everything pop out more.

Black background is a sure way to improve the tank for next to no cost.
Im not sure whether you had just taken this pic during a water change but fill your tank up with more water :P
If you want more plants I'd suggest buying the same stuff you have, you dont necessarily want 10 different species in the one tank - I've tried it, I dont like it, I think it looks better with bigger bunches of the same species - looks a lot more natural
In my 10 gallon I have a fine 2mm black gravel that looks pretty sweet as an alternative to sand - something to note with the black gravel is that tiny dead snail shells and other white debris show up just as well and looks just as ugly as the black debris on white sand.
Another thing I've found with my tanks is that the longer you leave them to do their own thing without moving stuff, the more natural it looks. I dont gravel vac. so in my tanks where I have ~5mm brown gravel, they have started going green on top with algae - which I prefer to the "clean" gravel look - All my aquascaping rocks have grown algae in the cracks where the shrimp and stuff cant reach which make the rocks look 10x better than when they were new. What I'm saying is your tank will look better with age - the plants will fill out the space, the bottom of your tank will be shadowed by the plants and it'll look nicer.
You've got a good looking tank in my opinion - way better than my first few set ups
