    Default Hi Everyone!

    0 Not allowed!
Just want to introduce myself I'm Jake and I currently have 3 fish tanks...
    120 Gallon Cichlid Tank
50 Gallon Cichlid Tank (Soon to be used as a breeder and later this year converted to marine)
    10 Gallon Breeder/Hospital Tank

I have had fish all my life had my own fish tank for the first time when I was 8 years old and just moved on from there really. I love cichlids due to their wonderful colours, agressive personalities make them more interesting to watch (not for the fights just the way they swim and chase each other) and how tough they are.

I have only recently got the 120 (October 2014) and their has been some teething problems I had a massive problem with green water (Algae bloom) which turns out is apparently due to my filter not being fully established and me starting to give it a clean too early. I was then advised to put some plants in there to eat the nitrates that occur in my de-clorinated tap water however this caused white spot and because the water was so green I didn't notice until my clown loaches were covered and it started affecting my cichlids behaviour. Lost my loaches treated the ick and only lost 1 malawi so it could of been much worse. Anyway I then moved all of my fish to my 50 Gallon making this overstocked but I was advised if it's temporary it will be ok just water change every 3 days at 20% so I did that. Emptied the 120 and started again left it setup for a week treated it with bacteria etc. and introduced 6 fish one week later all was fine 6 more went in yesterday I have came down today and it looks like I have a green tinge to my water so I'm still working on this I have even been told a UV filter might not cure it.

All in all not an easy run with this tank. I am now not cleaning the filter only replacing the wool every 3 days and getting some fresh carbon. water changes every 3 days at 10-20% and apparently this should cure it we will see.

So my 50 gallon still has half my cichlids in which is fine it's not overstocked now however I think my Jewels have thought that thanks to all these water changes it's a perfect time to start breeding the colours are very much out and 2 are staying in or around a plant together. So this could be interesting.

When the 120 is all sorted I will have all my cichlids in the tank and in the 50 gallon I will be attempting to breed either peacocks or Jewels.

So that's me I have to say this hasn't been the easiest time in my fish keeping journey over the past few months but I'm sure I will get there.

Welcome to the AC. Looking forward to seeing you about.

Please do consider starting a journal. I too am sorry to hear of your recent troubles. There are many knowledgeable members here, perhaps someone has dealt with similar troubles and you could benefit from their experiences. Having been in this hobby for such a long time, you certainly must have many experiences to share, too.
