    fish tank.JPG So i have just got my first fish tank was lucky to get some pre cycled media for the filter although the filter seems cheap and noisey but it will do till my next pay now let the fun begin with the fish selection although im not sure i have a choice in the matter

    So i filled the tank last night and noticed about 30 dead snails rise from the substrate the tank has been empty for a week before i got it will this be an issue for me or should i change the substrate

    Remove the dead snails and vacuum the substrate. Also check your water levels well. I would run the tank a while even though you have cycled filter media as you would doing a fishless cycle to be sure. the dead snails decay can cause a large amount of ammonia and you don't want to lose money on livestock.

    You may consider just replacing the substrate....gravel/some sands are pretty cheap, plus there's no telling what nasties are lurking in that old stuff

    Also can you guys give me any ideas on what to stock my tank with its roughly 3 feet long 1 foot deep 20 Gallons . The other half has her eyes on some electric yellow cichlids but from what ive found the tank may be to small once they are fully grown

    They get pretty large. Depends on what you want. You can do a planted tank or a simple community tank. It's your call. I would deff put cory cats in there. Extremely comical.
