I've always dosed this tank for the WHOLE tank with Prime, once a week every week during WC's...4 ml of Prime (1 ml per 10G)...and the plants seem to do just fine...no ferts, CO2, or anything else needed, either

I've never said plants can't be grown. I'm simply stating detoxifying nitrate makes it less readily available for plants. Light is a small portion of what they require, it just doesn't seem necessary to over-dose prime when we know the plants would prefer not to. It also still removes all the same chlorine to dose only the amount of water you're adding back.

Also, your plants will display far more radical colors of reds and greens with iron.. Just saying. You also may see more leafs with more readily available nitrates in the water. I didn't mean to suggest plant growth can't be done.

That Banana plant would for sure send those leaves to the surface with just a little bit more nitrogen. I would also burry the bottom 1/8-1/4" inch of the banana plant for even better results.

If you cut all the leafs on the left side of the sword(?) it would only grow out the right side and it would pick up better growth with that spray bar. You'd be surprised how much MORE the plant would respond to some TLC in small areas as these.

Looking ahead, I was told that I could only have 5-6 fish for a 10g tank. Is there possibility of adding any more?

Honestly, I'd really like to have a red-tailed shark. I understand so far that they require a larger tank.

That shark would own the tank. They need about 10gallons of territory to themselves. I'd go for smaller community fish so you can pack it up more. Between 5-15 depending on size.

Darn haha it was worth a shot to ask!

Once the water chemistry is under control, would it be feasible to put in two more of each tetra and a dwarf gourami?

I'd put two schools of 5 of 1-1.5" tetra and a dope gourami. Maybe some pigmy cory. A shrimp. Some snails.

oh yeah! not all at once.. but over time that sounds like a sweet FULLY stocked 10g to me. Get each tetra school on its own. Get the gourami last. I'd get the inverts first.

Oh that would be so cool! What type of snails would be recommended?
