It's been a long morning. While upstairs potty training our new 8 week old kitten, I remembered I had to feed the fish. Upon getting to the tank, I realized that the intake valve was a bit tilted, so I grabbed it and slightly adjusted it, causing the tubing to come un-hooked from the actual filter, which meant water was absolutely gushing from the filter all over my parents carpet and tank stand. I immidietly unplugged the filter, and stuck my thumb in the hole to stop the water. Took my shirt off and plugged it up with that, until I could re-hook the tubing to the canister. Meanwhile, I managed to uproot my Amazon sword which lately has had a lot of leaves on it dying. I fixed the tubing so it wasn't as mangled and was in more of a natural position, rehooked everything, planted the sword, and spent about 10 minutes re-priming my filter. Everything seems fine now, but I'm definitely nervous something will happen again once I leave for work. Sigh, two steps forward and one step back I suppose!

Yeah, you will be exhausted after working so hard before work! Glad you got it fixed, and I hope its permanent. If your sword has so many dying leaves you may want to cut them off and add a root tab near to it. The dying/decaying leaves can add nitrates to your water. Did you get a chance to look at its roots in the mayhem? Were they healthy white or dead-brown?

Double check? I'm on my third check now! Lol. The roots all seemed white and healthy. I've always just had 1 root tab underneath but I added a second once I got it rooted just in case. A little nervous to put the background on because I'll have to move the tubing around a bit, but I'll definitely be extra cautious with it from here on out

Well that's odd that it is dying off, is it a recent addition and hasn't acclimated yet?

It's been in the tank since either early December or late November, and doing wonderful up until now! Not sure what is up, I'll give it a few more days before I get too nervous.

Sad to report the loss of my female angelfish this morning. Over the past couple of days I've noticed she was staying towards the top corners of the tank, with some serious bloating in the stomach. Ammonia, nitrates, and nitrites were all fine, but I had a similar issue with her back in December. Assuming it's dropsy, haven't had any issues with the other fish, but I'm keeping a close eye on them.
