    IT'S AAAAAAAAAAAAAALIVE!

took the motor off and just rinsing it out with hot water and banging it around a bit i managed to knock out like 6-8 pond snails. how in the world they got in there I dunno but I gave it a good cleaning and letting it run in the tank after I put the media back in. But now I got way to many fish in my other tank so i will have to start moving a few of them back slowly

Dang...shoulda just had you send it to me for spare parts

Let's get in the habit of cleaning that thing every 4-6 weeks or so, shall we?

It probably gunked up, stopped the impeller...with no flow, they were able to climb in and enjoy the nastiness you saved up for them

also while my driftwood went back in I noticed a couple of my assassin's decided to hitch a ride (got a couple dozen minimum now from the original batch of 5 (3 survived)) so they got a fresh buffet to work on and with the wood going to the other tank briefly, man pond snails also transferred. so more food for all of them.

All these problems with snails I sure won't get any for my tank. My intake holes are 1/4" dia so maybe a small one could work it's way in there? It would get a heck of a ride going thru my rock sump and thru the impeller into the big tank filter. That is where it would stop unless it is smaller then 20 Micron in size! I did have a rock stick in my impeller and stop it from turning but the Magnetic Drive allowed the motor to still turn and saved it. Now the rock sump will keep that from happening again.

Never underestimate the destructive power of the pond snail. They get everywhere.

Hey FT, welcome back! Matt gave you some excellent advice on cleaning and AC filter. With proper maintenance, AC filters will last a very long time and yes, they are tough but you gotta keep the impeller well and shaft clean. Snails in the well are obviously not a good thing.

Winter's coming and I'm sure you're just as excited about that as I am. Oh...wait, you've already started a thread about that and I can tell you're really charged up about it!
