I throw dried maple, oak and birch leaves in my tank and my fish love them. I do it mostly for aesthetics, but I've noticed the pleco munching on them. They also provide great habitat for the fish. I don't have shrimp, so I can't say anything about that. I'm just a leaf supporter.

Question Leaf litter enough for Bamboo shrimp in RO/DI water?

    0 Not allowed!
Question - would leaf litter alone create enough microorganisms to support bamboo shrimp in an artificially planted tank (no live plants) that uses 100% RO/DI water?

When I stock the 29 gal, I would love to add a bamboo shrimp to the Amanos, but my water is too "clean" as it's 100% RO/DI, with no microorganisms or live plants.
75 gal - Smudge Spot Cories, Silvertip & Pristella Tetras, Scissortail & Red Tail Rasboras, Pearl Gourami, Black Kuhli Loaches, Whiptail Cats, Wild Caught BNP
Dual 29 gals - Diamond Tetras. Harlequin Rasboras, Bloodfin Tetras
    10 Gal - Mr. Betta's Fishy Paradise

Good question, that I do not have an answer for...what will the Amanos eat?...do you plan on buying shrimp food just for them?

They will get Hikari Shrimp Cuisine, algae wafers, bottom dweller wafers, some fresh veggies and most of what I feed my other fish. And I will be growing algae on rocks in a 10 gal so I can switch them out (also for Mr. Pleco in the 75 gal).

You only feed every other day, correct?

I'm not sure a bamboo would work..but you can always see how the amanos work out, and add one or two later

Have you ever considered cory catfish?...they stir up alot of detritus from the substrate that all shrimp love

No tank I'll ever have will be without them...they "rule" the substrate, lol

The only bad part about cories is deciding which ones to choose!

Ya know, I am going to set up a native tank when I move, and this would make it look that much more....... native. I wonder if water oak leaves will work?
