To be honest, $5000 is not a bad quote to get all that you want completed.

It DOES sound like alot of work, and I tend to agree...materials cost is what I'd want an estimate of, though, since they aren't included

Still may be a good deal just for the labor if the 5K includes permits/inspections etc

If the $5000 includes the cost of subcontracting the plumber and electrician, seems to me a really decent price. But I agree that you'll want a materials estimate too before moving forward.

Hopeful that y'all will have a quality job when it's all said and done.
It must be so disrupting to you and your family to be unsettled, but your plans sound terrific and it will all be worth the trouble when you get your basement finished.

He just said $5000 and materials are on us. That is the top of the budget for framing of a 700 square foot space to code with only spray painting the ceiling and no flooring. Lots of places state that the cost for all-materials and labor for a space that size would be 5-8K so I can't see spending all that just for his labor.

Budget is crazy tight since we still have a bunch of other costs: we will need to get a new shower for the master within the month (it was bad when we got the house, got a credit for it), a washer and dryer by the end or begining of the year(the washer is putting holes in our clothes and the dryer takes 3 cycles to dry the clothes-you set it for 60 min and it stops at 20 ); within the end of the month Mom wants a new recliner and to possibly get two chairs reupholstered for the family room, plus some window curtain rods, curtains and shades for a couple windows. The beginning of the year we will need a new stove as it doesn't heat right (brother is a service tech for large appliances and says its the age and nothing to do for it) would love to get one sooner but not going to be in the budget. Just crazy the cost when you move, just nutso!

Yeah is a lot of fun, I am hoping to make a big impact on getting the house more like a home this weekend. Will be renting a rug doctor tomorrow to clean the carpet in my room, then off to IKEA for a bed for me and Sis, closet organizer for me and one for the hall closet and laundry room. Have some organizers to install in the bathroom and kitchen cabinets and some to set up in the pantry closets. I have all of the boxes in the upstairs opened and put away except 2 (and the ones for our bedrooms which are currently in our rooms) and I also set up Mom's walk in closet with her clothes as well.

Also want to get a deep cleaning done after everything is done, maybe try and see if I can't do anything with the fish-it really bugs me its such a mess-but I really don't know if I will have time to do more than a WC on the tubs. Fortunately the python works in the master bathroom faucet-makes life so much easier.

Pressure is on to get the house in some facade of order for Thanksgiving...even if the basement is full of boxes that have no where to go, lol.

Yeah, Mom had some $$$ left over from home sale-was hoping to put some in savings-but not looking like it now . Its why we are patiently waiting (and hoping) for a good offer from this guy. He comes highly recommended from the realtor that helped us with Dad's house. works well and economically.

Well I have 15 minutes left to another late lunch so lets see if I can get an update.

Worked my hinny off this weekend. I took Friday off and we went shopping-for groceries and out for breakfast. Wanted to be more productive so when I got home I made chili and then installed the 4 under sink pullout organizers I bought, wanted to set 2 in the kitchen but with the electric wire and the disposal-they won't work so back they go.

Saturday was spent cleaning the house, organizing, helping put beds together, pulling houseplants that were freezing (slowly) to death, into the house and setting up an Island I bought for the kitchen

    pottstown island.jpg

Brother and his Wife and nephews came over as our dishwasher (as old as the house) decided to call it quits. He fixed something and let us know it has a small leak and to change the part would be $300. So add dishwasher to the list of appliances to replace in the not too distant future.

So I called putting the island together quits for the day.

Sunday was spent cooking, and cleaning, and doing laundry. then went to look at a kitty that was up for adoption, I would up submitting an application for adoption for a 4 year old male shorthair names Sir Gilbert-and was approved, in the meantime Sis and I perused their main center's "Cat Room" and interacted with some other kitties looking for a cat for my Dad and Grandma. Grandma really misses Wednesday, as Wednesday kept her company all day long while she was by herself. We found a couple options, including a cute dilute calico, but he has to go and see the cats himself to fill out an application. We will be picking Sir Gilbert up on Wednesday.

After that we came home and finished putting the island together. Then I went in the garage and took a two car garage from a disorganized trash and box riddled mess to a garage that is (more) organized and with enough room for Mom to park her car in there away from the elements. She was so thrilled, I was frozen and lacked all feeling in thighs and nose, lol

Wish I could have gotten some more done, but if I am lucky I am going home earlier on Wednesday, and I have Thursday-Sunday off so I hope to get all of the boxes in the garage either unpacked or in the basement. Get the basement sorted into the storage section, to unpack now and to unpack later sections.

The guy is coming over tonight to talk about the basements-so we will know what to do with the fish in the living room this weekend too.

Sorry I have been MIA, work today has been brutal and home is equally (and more satisfyingly) brutal.

"Sir Gilbert" is a pretty boy, but please tell me you'll be able to rename him w/out too much fuss......

Life has been "trying" (to say the least) for you and yours, but it will all come together just fine in the end...you've more willpower for things like this than I could ever imagine or have myself...keep in mind what I keep repeating..."baby steps"

You got a bunch accomplished this past weekend, and I am sure you'll get even more done with the 4 day break...just be sure to get some "chill" time within the chaos...promise?

    Ditto that ^
You have accomplished so much! The rest will get sorted out, I'm sure.

Love that kitchen island you've found! It looks quite handy to have.
