    Default New Filter Query - Oversized filtration

    So.... I bought my Fluval FX6 which is rated for 400 Gallons in anticipation of the eventual upgrade to tank size. (Aiming for ~150 to 200 gallon range)

    I presently have a 65g being filtered by a ~4 year old Fluval 405. Its going pretty strong, but it does have a bit louder sound than it did brand new. And in this first stage of remodeling the house (painting/countertops/flooring) I will need to tear down and move the tank for awhile then move it back. I am considering upgrading the filter at that time.

    And the big question is.. will I turn my 65g into a typhoon situation if I upgrade the filter ahead of the tank?

    What is the GPH flow out of it? Mine puts aprox 450 GPH out of 2 discharge outlets and you can see stuff moving around in the 45 gal tank. I measured it and it was 1 gal in 8 seconds.

    I'm using a FX5 and a XP2 on my 90 gallon tank.

    Doesn't cause any problems with too much flow

    I wish I could give you more detailed feedback about the FX6, but maybe you could use my set-up as a comparison due to the flow rates being very similar.
    If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

    The manual claims it does 563 GPH, it is out of a split dual outlet.

    @Cliff

    The FX6 is just the next model version of the FX5, so your feedback was great.

    I would think you could control that no problem. If needed maybe a diverter to break up the flow more.
