Sorry for your loss bud. I've had this happen before as well, but with Flame tetra's on just flake food. I kind of attributed it to the same thing you did, excitement. Maybe try feeding them in smaller increments for a longer period of time next time??

Thanks guys. Ya. Maybe smaller bits, slower.

Lost another harlequin on the weekend. I did my count and one was unaccounted for...couldn't figure it out.

It was flat on the floor. I stepped on it I guess. Didn't realize it fell out :(
I watch fish. Really. I just sit and stare.

No lid? Or was he just a jumper?

I had raised the water level recently to sit at the outflow of my hobs. And I don't have a lid yet, I have to create a diy acrylic one. I guess he got startled somehow and jumped out. Never had that happen before.

Thanks. Also lost one of my cories in the ph crash of 2014 the week before during my distilled water test. Its terrible. The casualties of being a fish keeper newbie. I appreciate all the help and concern. Not going to replace them, just going to monitor and try to keep things stable and under control for the time being.

Unfortunately, we've all suffered those losses. It does suck, but we live and we learn bud. I've lost my fair share, believe me. Get that lid quick as ya can friend. I recommend those Aqueon Versa's if you want a quick cheap lid just to keep the top covered! Or maybe some tinfoil or plastic wrap you can just sit on the top to keep them from jumping?

Yeah have you guys seen Finding Nemo. The fish really wasn't dead in the dentist office, it was just faking it so it wouldn't get nabbed with the net. Haha :)

Sorry for your loss. Reading all these replies and I don't see anyone ask about your water conditions. What are your water conditions? How far apart did the two fish die? Might be a coincidence, them dying after you feed them, or maybe a sign of something else.

Well, they've been stable, I sort of changed the ph a few points in one day, 2 weeks ago, (mixed in distilled water during a wc) and the day after a cory was dead. Everyone else was fine on this weekend, I had raised the water even higher than usual and found the harlequin on the floor that evening, squashed.
