I'm pretty sure this is where the journals go if not some1 tell me and ill move it lol I have a 55 gallon tank that i put a bluegill sunfish in its my second sunfish tank i had 1 before but it was a tank that was to small and he got ich and died but this tank is big enough its 55 gallons with a 75 gallon filter i I have no plants yet but i have gravel on the bottom. I've never had a 55 gallon tank so this is going to be an adventure for me.......what i know about sunfish.....they are extremely aggressive eaters, Do better as the only fish in the tank because they only school together for feeding otherwise they fight ,the males take care of the fry, they change the shade of their scales according to the light they receive, they are extremely smart I think will learn to know their names still working on that the 1st sunfish i had i named sunny and i called him that and i think he was responding to it when he died 6 months later this one i named fetus(don't ask lol) and im going to see if he has the same reaction like sunny did

i will be posting pictures within the next few days

See I don't know much about sunfish but I can say this though will you just be having this one fish in Here because for 55 gallon you will need a 110 gallon filter
When everything goes without a hitch its only then do you realize something is wrong

ya just the one fish and i know i'm working on getting a stronger filter right now i have 6 filters on it all adding up to about 80 and i changed his name to the beast because i bought 2 dozen feeder fish for him thinking they would last a couple days and by morning they were all gone lol

thats why i started this thread/journal because he is eating nonstop if i let him my 1st sunfish didn't he would eat 3-4 feeders and leave the rest alone until the next day so i have no idea how much to feed him before its to much

I'm not sure how much is enough with a blue gill, but I imagine it is no different than a cichlid of the same size. So maybe someone from the cichlid realm can weigh in on that. I would suggest finding a different food source. Feeder fish tend to be in poor health and can often times carry diseases that could lead to an infection in your fish. You may try things like shrimp and beefheart and if he will take it cichlid pellets.
