Today I tested my water after 36 hours and my Ammonia is at 0ppm and usually my Nitrite goes up to 2-5ppm in seconds. Today the Nitrite is staying at Blue 0ppm. Can I do a big water change and buy fish today?

I started my cycle about 3 weeks ago. Everyday for the last week or so the ammonia has been dropping to 0 in 24 hours but, the Nirite would always stay at 2-5ppm last time I tested after waiting 36 hours and the Ammonia is 0 Nitrite 0 and Nitrate 0. Can I have a false positive? Can my 12 plants have anything to do with it?
I called 2 stores. 1. Said to add a few fish and wait to see how it goes before I add more and my nitrate should go up. The other store said I should wait to tomorrow and if everything is ok buy tomorrow and the nitrate should go up.

The picture is after 15 minutes of waiting

Hmmm you should be seeing nitrates. Are you shaking the crap out of the second bottle and subsequent test tube? Don't get fish until you know for sure that your testing is good.

I did not shake the second bottle but, I shook the crap out of the test tube and tested twice.I was told when I add fish the nitrate will go up. Should I add ammonia one last time to be sure?

I added 1.5ml of Ammonia one last time to see if it drops to 0 in 24 hours and the nitrite stays at 0. If it does I will add fish tomorrow.

You need to shake the 2nd nitrate testing bottle like crazy...shake until your arm falls off...bang it on a table, throw it across the room...shake it upside down....then shake some more

Funny I just added 1.5ml of ammonia about 30 minutes ago and it shoot up 2-4ppm but the Nitrite and Nitrate still at 0ppm. I shook the Nitrite and Nitrate till my heads hurt. Maybe 1 minute. NOTHING.

At best, I think you've got an immature cycle. A tank isn't ready until it consistently tests for 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, and at least 20 for the nitrates. Have patience, keep the tank cycling.

I waited 2 hours after adding 1.5ml of ammonia and tested again.

    Ammonia 2-4ppm
    nitrite 1ppm
    nitrate 5.0

Will test tomorrow and see if all go to 0 again.

You're almost there freshwaterfishlover! I always wait at least two days after my ammonia and nitrItes convert to 0 in 24 hours just to be extra sure that the tank is cycled.

A little patience goes a long way when it comes to cycling your tank. Your fish will thank you for making sure its completely cycled before you add them to the tank.
