Post Hello! Any fellow Yinzers out there?

I have posted a few threads and thought I should probably introduce myself and say "HI!"

I have loved fish every since I was little, so about 25 years now. Like a lot of children out there, I had numerous fair goldfish that lived in a bowl for about a week then proceeded to croak, and I had a betta that lived in a 2gallon tank and he survived for about a year. Sadly, I didn't know anything about keeping fish when I was a child. Well, I ended up taking a long break from fish, about 15 years or so. Then I met the man who eventually became my husband. And he had a perfectly good 10g tank in his apartment that just sat there empty. So, I convinced him that we needed to fill it with fish! :) Still not knowing anymore about fish that I did when I was young, we got 2 danios, 2 neons, and 2 red-eyed tetra, and a clown loach (to keep the snail population down). Little did I known, clown loaches needed to be a tank at least 10x that size. Within about a month of getting the fish they all had perished, except the poor little clown loach. I felt so bad for him all alone in that tank by himself. I decided "That's it! I'm going to get SERIOUS about fish keeping". So, I started doing a lot of research and found a lot of great info on the internet. I ended up rehoming my loach and he now has a bunch of buddies to shoal with in a gigantic tank. YAY! I ended up buying a 29g tank, read up on how to do a fishless cycle, bought live plants and the rest is pretty much history. I now have 3 thriving tanks: a 29g with emporer and cardinal tetra, and 2 10g tanks that each house a male betta. I've become OBSESSED with learning everything I can about planted tanks and what's best for my little fish friends. This forum is wonderful! Big thanks to all of you for sharing your extensive knowledge!

Hello and welcome! Glad to see you got a handle on this "super easy" hobby. LOL You'll need to show us pictures of your tanks. We were just talking about Emperor tetras and how cool they are. I will say that I have no idea what a "Yinzer" is. So I'm probably not one. lol

You know what this tank needs? ........................ Crypts.

Thanks Compass! I'll definitely try to post some pics of my tanks and fish in the next week. So hard to get a good pic of the fishies. Urgh! I'll have to read up on some tips. I think I'll give my macro lens a try.

A Yinzer is someone who hails from Pittsburgh, PA :) We tend to say "yinz" instead of "you all", "ya'll", or "you guys" so we affectionately call ourselves Yinzers.
