Getting back into this hobby
Wow how things have changed!! We had an Tiger Oscar for 7 years. When he passed we gave all our aquarium stuff to my in-laws. But we have recently got a 65 gallon tank and stand for free. Yes, have tested the tank for leaks. Painting the stand a cream color, and waiting to set it up until we paint the living room. Was going to go with an underground filter again, but see that is not the way to go. Have 2 hydro IV sponge filters with power heads and a aqueon HOB coming from Amazon. Was wondering what to use as a substrate though. Sand or gravel? We are planning on getting 2 piranhas and some tetras and wanting to have live plants. Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the forum
I would suggest a plant based substrate, like Eco complete.
Are piranhas plant safe ?If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.
