Default Rummy Nose Tetras and Angelfish?

    0 Not allowed!
I need more fish in my 65 Gallon tank and am thinking about getting a school of Rummy Nose Tetras, probably 10 or so. I do have an Angelfish in my tank and am wondering if any one has kept Rummy Nose Tetras with their Angelfish?

Hubby has been wanting them for some time now.We saw a lot of them swimming together in the display tank at the fish story a while ago and they looked so cool!

I had a lot of fish die off in my 65 gallon for some strange reason. It'a been up and running for about 6 years and all of a sudden the chemistry in my tank went crazy about a year ago. I didn't make any changes to tank equipment or addition of fish or anything. I think it had to do with changes in my water but never really found out why. I decided to wait a while after it became stable again before I start adding fish. Everything has been fine for about four months now so I am now going to restock my tank.

My Angelfish is about two years old and I believe it has grown as much as it will grow. Not such an Angel either sometimes as it chases off my Harlequin Rasboras quite a bit now which I don't really like. I'm getting more Harleys to make the school larger and wanted to eventually add a school of Rummy Nose Tetras to give more activity in the tank and also help calm down "Star" (my Angelfish) a little bit. He can only chase away so many fish at a time.

If you can buy the Rummy nose as full grown as possible and you tanks fairly well planted, it would work.

I have rummy nose with my angel without any issues. My rummys seem to stay near the bottom of the tank, while the angel is higher up.

    Thanks guys,
My tank is planted and I'm planning on getting the largest Rummy's as possible. I didn't think they were bottom level fish though. I thought they swam in the mid to upper lever of the tank.

Mine swim in the mid level in the 75 but in the 50 they swim closer to the bottom, go figure, LOL!!

Your Rummys should be fine. Angels are actually pretty closely related to Discus and they share the same habits/behaviors. They also occur in the same water bodies. With that said, it's very popular to keep Rummys with Discus, and when done, there's usually very little issues.

I have Rummys in my 75gal and they typically hang out mid-section, but they sleep toward the bottom.

I keep marble hatchetfish in my 40gal with 3 angels. At first, the angels appeared to think the hatchetfish were food. When I first added them about a month or so ago, they started picking at them (first night). I started with 12 hatchets and now I'm down to 8. They no longer go after the hatchetfish and if they get too close, the hatchets are smart enough to move (and they're fast enough to keep away).

My theory is that your rummys will be too new to understand that the angels are inhabiting your tank already and have established territories and your angels will not understand that the new fish being added to the tank are new inhabitants, and not just food for them. That being said, I imagine you'll lose a few, but they'll learn and you'll be able to retain the grand majority of them.

I've never tried to replenish a species in that tank yet, so I'm not sure how they'd react to the same species being added to an existing school. Just keep an eye on them and prepare for a few losses, but everyone should come to grips with how to exist in the tank relatively quickly. It only took a day or two for the hatchets/angels to learn how to coexist.

Thanks KevinVa... I would like to end up with a school of 10 Rummy Nose Tetras so I'm thinking that I should buy around 15 or so but am not sure how many I should introduce to the main tank at a time since my Angelfish is definitely King of the tank. All of them at one time or no? Any suggestions on this?

I would add them all at once. If he does show aggression it will be harder for him to pick out one fish to go after all the time.
