I understand.. believe me! Rob is right.. I started cycling the 10g at the beginning of April and it didn't cycle until the end of July! I started cycling WITH a betta but the point is it took forever! I was ready to pull my hair out and the hubby was asking everyday when I was going to put fish in it.. Lol! It sucks but patience finally paid off for me just like it will for you!

I can't imagine going thru that. Did you learn patience or just which hats look cute on you after pulling your hair out?

Haha.. luckily I still have hair! But I found out I can be a lot more patient than I originally thought. I simply didn't have the choice but for you, I think using some seeded media is a great idea! And loved the video.. cichlids are looking great!

    Thank you, DM!

I tested the water on the jungle tank when I got home from work. Ammonia is still at 2 ppm. Nitrites and Nitrates are still at zero.
I have fluval u4 on the cichlid tank and a u3 on the jungle tank. Both use the same biomedia, but in different size cartridges.
Should I swap out as much biomedia as I can put from the u4 into the u3 and put the biomedia from the u3 into the u 4? Both have sponges too so I wouldn't be removing all the BB from the u4 (plus it will still have some of it's biomedia as the u4 .cartridge is bigger than the one in the u3).

How long has the cichlid tank been cycled, and up and running with fish?

My intitial answer is no, don't risk messing up a cycle to get another one "kick-started"...

Cichlid tank completed cycling August 8th. Cichlids added on the 9th. There are 3 filters in the cichlid tank. I would be taking partial biomedia from one of the 3 and not disturbing the other 2.

Sorry, I forget, what type of biomedia is in the Fluval filters?

I'm so used to having the AC's...with those, and the large Fluval rings, I'd move 3 or 4 rings, maybe 6, and see what happens

But I'm not familiar enough with the "u"'s to be comfortable with giving much useful advise...sorry

They are small ceramic pieces. About as big around as a pencil eraser and about 1/2" long.

I filled the biomedia cartridge in both filters with as much biomedia as they would hold before putting the filters in the tanks.

It can't hurt then, this is one of those opportunities when it is SO handy to have the loose biomedia bagged up into more than 1 bag per filter, space permitting, and different size bags...that way, you can lend the smaller bag to a tank being cycled so much easier than dealing with loose media...or even sponges, in some instances

Of course, you need new (rinsed) media in hand to replace what you "stole"
