    Default Water Change Fail

I've spilled a little water before but this was my first big fail. Some of you know I have a 10 gallon betta tank that is planted with a dirted substrate capped with sand. Well I'm cruising along, getting everything cleaned up and I notice this white gunky stuff on one of the corners. I got to suck it up and it doesn't come off. So I reach in there and I'm getting it off with my fingers. Little did I know my bucket had filled and the siphon hose fell out! Fortunately I had a towel on the grown but I didn't notice till my feet started getting wet. Well I freaked out and put the hose back in the bucket, only to realize the bucket was full and that I needed to stop my siphon quickly. So what do I do? I pull the siphon out of the water. Immediate backflush! Blew sand and dirt everywhere! Went all the way to the bottom of my substrate. So now I can't see anything in the tank, stuff is floating all over the place and my little betta is swimming around going "THIS IS AWESOME!!" lol So I clean up the water on the floor and get fresh water to fill the tank with. So I'm doing that while getting my net to catch the dirt that is floating. Got a bottle of sand and started covering stuff up again. It wasn't washed and so then I really couldn't see anything from the cloud of sand dust. Just hoping I got what I needed covered. Ooooooh fun times. lol Pay attention folks.

    Nice one!
I once managed to restart my filter without connecting the inlet hose. Wooohoooo, pumped water right out of the tank onto the floor. Thankfully our floors are concrete and I wanted to replace that carpet anyway. I haven't yet, but the smell reminds me ....

I wish I had done something like that only once. Seems more an annual or biannual thing...you can't pay a 100% attention 100% of the time!

Oh I followed that up today. Learned how to noodle by accident. Went to my LFS and they have this massive koi pond. You can put 25 in the machine and get food for them. So the wife wanted to feed them and we got some. I got the bright idea to hand feed the koi as I've done it before with other koi. It's going great, then a catfish materializes from the bottom and bites down on my fingers. Now I've got bandaids all over my fingers. lol Not a good few days to be me. Got my hatchetfish though! :D

Oh yah compass. You just wanted to feed the fish by hand. Imo you knew there be catfish for grubbing in the pond. But your timing was off.

On betta tank to eer is human. And no harm done except pride. I have ran bucket over, missed bucket with sipon, and stuck my hand in tank after filling it to the top. Oops forget my hand displaces more water and watched it run over the top.
We just laugh and get over it. Plus learn from it too.
