So two months into stocking. So lets update...

Even with trying two fishless cycles before stocking. I had three amonia crashes.
So unfortunately I ended up loosing all the fish. Twice. I suspect it was something in those old bricks.

But now. Everything is super smooth. The water is crystal clear. Clear except for the slightly tinted water. But given my new theme, I kind of like it. It's not envasive, but it completes the natural look i am going for.

So I've decided to turn this tank into a Paludarium / Vivarium

    More to follow. . .

    So.Thoughts on amphibian stocking?

I'm leaning towards frogs. So the main question; Poison Dart, Green Tree Frog or Red-Eye tree Frog.

I personally would prefer the Red-Eye. But given the land area arrangement which is better suited?

Either way, the decision is a month or so away. I just spread some Moss-Buttermilk around on the wood and brick. So that has to start taking hold before I can add a terrestrial animal.

As for the water stocking. Thats settled. I have 2 African Dwarf Frogs, a school of 5 Neons, 5 Ghost shrimp & Fiddler Crab.
There's a mix of Moss, Red Ludwiga, Rotala Indica, Coon's Tail and Hornwort.

Very interesting thread. Also good to see a local (I used to live near Angus) tho I have moved to North Bay now.

I also have locally collected plants in my community tank.

Will be interesting to see how this project evolves!

So I decided to evolve the rear left corner area.

So I went to the dollar store and got another bag of this "Decorative Moss"; It was still alive in the bag. I also got some assorted shells. One was very large and conical so I decided to put that on top of the glass rock. I secured it with moss and packed firm.

I also moved some of the plants around. I did some research and one of my plant species, is best used emergent. So I moved them and a Tiger Lilly to a shallow position in emergent style. The Red Ludwigia is still mostly underwater; Just breaking the surface. Finally I took some Ivy clippings from the other side and anchored them in the moss on my wood.

Pics to follow in a few hours.
Plus Video tours of my home made hood, day / night lighting & fog systems.
