You and your Dad did a great job, I like it...
It's been four years but here is the tank stand I built, still looks as good as the day it was done...

You're getting old when you get the same sensation from a rocking chair that you once got from a roller coaster.

Here's a few of my stand projects

Slaphppy7 I really like the open simplicity of your stand.
I don't have very many good pics, but here is two I built. The first was for a 29g, I don't have a pic with front door on it. Project page here. The other was for my 75g. The pic doesn't show the other door I have on the front yet, but the inside is a DVD shelf that slides out, leaving enough room for my filter and what not. The black one I painted with a RustOleum appliance spray paint from lowes. It's water resistant and repels it well enough, making spills easier to wipe up.
When I estimated the weight of the tank at half a ton full of water and rocks, I may have over-engineered the stand by using 4x4 posts and lag screws. The end result though leaves with me a 75g stand that can withstand several thousands of pounds and yet cost less than $100 to build. Even my 29g is sturdy enough to move across the floor with a full tank on it.
