I had a great planted tank. I was having great luck even with a black thumb. At the beginning of this year I had surgery on my hand an am just beginning to use it again. This left tank maintenance one of the lower priorities and it got to looking pretty pathetic.

Finally the other day the pump burned out and while setting the new one up I noticed one of my gourami's trying to build a nest. I've never been a real fan of fake plants, but no stores sell any plants of a decent size around here, and it looks like I may be back down to one hand for a while soon. I figured fake plants are better than nothing. I kept what live plants I could salvage and fertilized. Then threw in the rest and moved things around a little to stop the gouramis from fighting. They love the bamboo you see on the right. I'm going to have to get more.

It could be a lot better, but at least it's not sad to look at anymore. Here it is before and after. The original planted tank is in my photo gallery.

Nice transformation. It doesn't look bad at all now.
When I go fishing I just throw sharp rocks in the water and wait for the dead fish to float to the top... Kingfisher
Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes that reason is you are stupid and make bad decisions.

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.

Dear naps, sorry I hated you so much when I was a child... Love me

I'll agree, that's pretty sharp! Hope your hand get's better soon. Water changes and the like are probably a pain then. =/

    Looking good.

All of my tanks have live plants except the last one I set up. It's a 40B and I was transferring a couple of silver dollars to this tank along with some other tetras. Since the SD's are only good with a limited number of plant varieties, I decided to go with silk plants, and saved one really large anubias. I'm actually happy with how it turned out.
