Got my API Master Test Kit today. Here are my Results:

    PH: 7.6
    High PH: 8.2 - 8.3
    Ammonia: 0.25
Nitrate: 0 ( the Water was Clear. Performed Test 2X to make Sure)

So how does that look & what should be my next Step. I think I need to get my PH down a bit. If I do need to, please let me know how.
    20 Gallon Freshwater
    2- Whisper 2 HOB Filters
Neons, Swordtails, Cory Cats, Cherry Barbs

Don't worry about pH while cycling the tank. It will fluctuate. What are the nitrites? Your next step is to wait for the ammonia to reach 0ppm then add more.
When I go fishing I just place a sharp rock in the water and sit there waiting for all the dead fish to float to the top... Kingfisher
Brutal honesty will be shown on this screen.
I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
Tolerance is a great thing to have, so is the ability to shut up.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

A Ph that high means very hard water. If you want to keep south-american fish in that you need to soften the water for example by switching to part reverse osmosis water.

Ok I have 3 Nitrate Bottles of Test Solution.
One says Nitrate Bottle #1 NO3 Test Solution
One Says Nitrate Bottle #2 NO3 Test Solution
One says Nitrate NO2 Test Solution

Finally Read Directions carefully & it Says to use 5 Drops of NO2 Test Solution, Shake 5 Seconds, Wait 5 Minutes.
This is the 1st Nitrate Test Listed.
The Results from the Nitrate NO2 Test are: 0 ppm

So there is a Nitrate No3 Test as well. I did not know that! ;-) I'll post those results tomorrow.

And what does "Wait for Ammonia to Reach 0 & Add more mean? Add More of What??

You need to reread those instructions for the tests too. You should have 2 bottles of reagent for the ammonia test, 1 bottle of reagent for the nitrite test, and 2 bottles of reagent for the nitrate test. Both the ammonia test and the nitrate test need two reagents to get an accurate reading. Be sure to shake the bottles for the nitrate test like your life depended on it. There are crystals in the bottle that need to be evenly spread in the solution.

OK Duh! Nitrite & Nitrate. Guess I failed Chemistry 1. I understand that part now.
Nitrite & Nitrate Tests both come out to 0.
    Is this good?

talldutchie, OK when I get Ammonia down to 0 with Water Changes, then I add Ammonia. Where do I get Ammonia from?

I read it but maybe it did not fully sink in. It's funny! When I had Tanks back in the day, I never went through all this & the fish lasted years.
It seems the hobby has come a long way in 15 years. I guess I'll go back and reread "Cycling with Fish".

I made a cheat sheet for the test kit here, it may simplify things for you: http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/aqua...d.php?t=117796

You definitely need to re-read and fully understand the cycling with fish sticky

wait. Are you cycling with fish or without? I'm confused.

If you have fish in the tank already, you don't ever add ammonia

Instead you make water changes whenever ammonia and or nitrItes exceed .25ppm or nitrates exceed 20ppm.
the goal is to have 0 ammonia and nitrites and less than 20 nitrates.

If you're cycling without fish, you can get the ammonia at an ACE hardware store.
