The tank is 36x12x15 (3ft long) ~100l 26g. I'm planning on having a school of tiger barbs only. With the possibility of some corys.

Adequate filtration APS ef 1000lh canister filter with another internal 600lh APS filter.

I have just fitted a 78w overhead t5 unit as well as I'm going to have live plants! (Got dwarf sagg and vallis in ATM).

Can't wait to actually have FISH in it haha.

I guess it is good to keep bringing it back up to 2ppm. You could add the whole school of tiger barbs when it is fully cycled.
When I go fishing I just place a sharp rock in the water and sit there waiting for all the dead fish to float to the top... Kingfisher
Brutal honesty will be shown on this screen.
I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
Tolerance is a great thing to have, so is the ability to shut up.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Just released some air from out of my filter and loads of this white, wavy stuff has came out my outlet pipe.

What is it? Will it go or will it affect my ammonia levels?

Woooot! Just got home from work and it's dropped!

    Results:

    Ammonia: 0ppm
    Nitrite: 0.25ppm
    Nitrate: 80ppm? (Blood red)

I'm so happy! All of those weeks of grinning and bearing has paid off.

What now? Shall I continue to add ammonia until the nitrates can process the nitrites down to 0 in 12 hours?

And any answers on that film like stuff from my last post? It's all coming out the filter now without me even touching it.

Yes, keep adding ammonia when it reaches 0ppm until the nitrites are also 0.
I have no idea what that white stuff is in the picture. Looks similar to the gunk that grows on new driftwood, (a fungus?). You can take it out or leave it, it usually goes away on its own or certain fish will eat it.

Ok my ammonia is at 0 and my nitrites at 0. Shall I do a large water change and add fish tomorrow?

Add more ammonia, if it is 0ppm ammonia/nitrite and some nitrate again tomorrow then yes, change as much water as you can and get some fish.

Ok just added some more ammonia. Hopefully I will get the same results tomorrow and I can pick up my barbs.

Cheers :) just added some big chucks of slate into the tank as a centre piece. So exited to add my fish.

    Patience is a virtue.
