Yes, but it will probably hide all the time. Kribs are social and dither fish would keep him/her out. You could put a pair together with no other fish in a 20g.

What kind of 20 gallon? Regular, high, or long? I guess my question is why you would want to keep a single specimen krib?
    8 tanks running now:
    1x 220 gallon, 2x55 gallon, 1x40 gallon long, 1x29 gallon, 1x20 gallon long, 1x5.5 gallon, 1x2 gallon
Gouramis, barbs, rasboras, plecos, corys, tetras, fancy guppies, swordtails, ottos, rainbow shark, upside-down catfish, snails, and Max and Sparkles the bettas.

You could do that with a Krib, I would get a female, much more colorful. You could also get a Bolivian Ram, even more peaceful and just as easy to keep.

Female Kribensis are colorless when allone. They get their colors only when they spawn.

Has the fish to be very colorful, or is it possible its a bit timid looking, but having an interesting behaviour?

If yes, there are nice little Cichlids, very peaceful. They come from east Africa and those fish live in snailshells.

Perfect for a 20 gal. tank.

    Just take a look here:

I have two female Kribensis also known as Pelvicachromis pulcher. One is wild caught & she is gold & red/purple all the time. My farm bred female is only red bellied during breeding & her gold coloration is also only visible during breeding & substantially duller.

I gave a thumbs up on the female krib info before I read about the multies. LOL
IMO it would be very risky to put multies in with anything but multies as they are territorial and quite aggressive.
