In moderate to low light levels with high nutrients, a marimo moss ball can out compete other algaes. In higher light and mower nutrient levels, other types of algae will out compete the marimo moss ball. Typically, the algaes that like higher light levels and can thrive on wider range of nutrient levels are better suited for a refugium, at least that has been my experience.If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.
