  1. Default 6 Neon Tetras + How Many Guppies in a 23 Gallon Aquarium??

    0 Not allowed!
Luckily I've started doing research on fish WAYYY before I'm actually getting a tank. So far I've upgraded from a 10 gallon tank to a 23 gallon tank - and I've been able to figure out exactly what I want in there.

I've already decided on a school of 6 Neon Tetras

    and 1 Otocinclus Algae Eater

The rest I want to fill up with guppies...I know they'll breed so I do need some room, but this is my idea so far:

    Fancy Guppy
    Turquoise Guppy
    Lyretail Delta Guppy

    Fancy Guppy (2)
    Tequila Sunrise Guppy (2)
    Lyretale Delta Guppy (2)

Do you think it's possible to add another set (1 male + 2 female?)

Since I have a strange gallon size, I can't really find this answer anywhere. I feel I have SOME legroom here, but probably not.

ALSO, I'm starting off with guppies since they're the hardy fish of the tank, should I just start with three or would they be better with 6?

I think a better option would be to get 10-12 neon, 3-4 male guppies, 3-4 oto's. That many male/female guppies will over stock your tank in a couple months. Do you have a plan for all the fry? If your heart is set on male/female guppies then get 1 male and 3-4 females, it will take them a short bit longer to over stock the tank.
Have you read about cycling a tank before you get fish? Just in case here is a link that will explain it for you.

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.

+ 1 to Mommy1, you just got some great advice, the bigger the school of Neon's the more secure they will be. And her comment on the liveberers was spot on.

Yeah, can't add much more than emphasis. A good size school of neons will really improve behavior and and add a ton of color.

Also, you could have several colorful males and not worry about fry...but I know babies are super cute, so just plan for how to grow them out/get rid of them. That many females dropping fry at the same time spells disaster, so I would scale back the number of sets you are planning on.

And otos are schooling fish. Get a few of them, or get one small pleco (and driftwood).
20 gallon with a male betta, neons, glowlights, and red cherry shrimp. (work in progess) Recently added a few LIVE plants and driftwood, Woooohoooo!
