I brought this Texas cichlid at petsmart that was sold as a red texas cichlid. I was just wondering if it was or not?

They are only calling it a red texas cichlid because the parents are look like Red Texas or the parents produce fry that could end up looking like a red texas (Texas x festae or Texas x red parrot). Since red texas are hybrids, chances are high that you will end up with a hybrid that doesn't look like a red texas. Pretty deceptive marketing if you ask me.

Looks like a Green Terror or Blue Acara to me. Definitely not an expert though

Yeah my thought was green terror too, but I definitely don't know my cichlids as well as some.
20 gallon with a male betta, neons, glowlights, and red cherry shrimp. (work in progess) Recently added a few LIVE plants and driftwood, Woooohoooo!

The horizontal black band, and the orange/red in the cheeks and chest area is a dead give away that it is neither a blue acara nor a green terror.

I've been staring at this fish all day and it looks like a very young red texas to me.

When I go fishing I just throw sharp rocks in the water and wait for the dead fish to float to the top... Kingfisher
Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes that reason is you are stupid and make bad decisions.

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
Dear naps, sorry I hated you so much when I was a child... Love me

Yes that is a red texas. With the OPs previous pic, you don't know what it will end up looking until it gets a bit larger.
