My first fixture was a 48" Beamswork single brite LED. After about 6 months, the plug no longer stayed in the fixture - I had to tape it on. It's now in storage. Wouldn't buy another one.

I LOVE my 2 Current USA Satellite Freshwater LED+ units - great quality. Good for low to medium light plants, tank depth up to 18".

I have one of these as well and couldn't be happier with it.
When in doubt, do a water change.

Must be a different quality level between the beamsworks ones. Mine is the one sold as a plant light. Has given my 0 problems. I still like my current plus fixtures more.

So...I want to look for a good deal on a "Current USA Satellite" 48". The one with two rows of LEDs. That would provide enough light for my 55g tank to grow medium-light plants?

Seems sort of like overkill, honestly...the storm effects are cool, but really I just want something that will grow plants and not need new bulbs so often.

But if I DO go with the Current, I plan to fully drive my wife nuts (and fully impress my daughter) playing with all the cool features. :)

Go for it, you won't be disappointed...it's cloudy here today, so i have it set to match the weather...continually brightens then dims, like clouds passing over

You have to see it in person to appreciate it

I don't use the "lightning" setting, afraid it will freak out my fish, LOL

A good price for this fixture is $115.

I would not say that fixture is overkill. I think the controller to adjust the color is a very good option to have. I don't really like only having 120 degree lenses, but it looks like they the wattage of the diodes will compensate for that. I would say it's a pretty good fixture for $115.00 if all you want is med and low light demanding plants. I just would not want to try med to high or high demanding plants

+1. Here is a review from Tedsfishroom.com that gives a lot of good information on how to use this fixture -

OK, everybody, thanks for the info. A couple more questions: Can I elevate this a couple inches above my tank to get light to the floating plants, or would the 120 degree reflectors spread the light out too far? I guess I need to just get a protractor out and do the math, but any insights would be appreciated.

What kind of longevity can I expect from a fixture like this? it seems like the main advantage of LEDs is that they last basically forever, and you don't have to be constantly changing bulbs. Is that correct?

    Thanks, as always!
