Default Betta in community tank yay or nay?

Finally have our new to us tank right. After 2 water changes all of our levels are great. Now the question is I have a gorgeous Betta named Jack in my 5.5gal. Husband wants to know if I can put him in the community tank. He's an overall friendly guy, isn't aggressive that I know of. My community tank is a 30 gal with the following in it: 2 male platy, 1 glotetra, 1 adult male fancy tail guppy, approx 12-15 baby fancy tails, 1 snail, a little algae eater (non Pleco), and a dwarf African frog. Future stocking plans include adding 5 more tetra and 3 more platy. Can Jack go in the big tank? It's planted up really well with fake plants but I can move his real ones to the tank also. Some betta work in a community tank and others don't. It depends on the community, set up, and the betta's temperament. In this case, I would advise against putting the betta in the community tank because generally, bettas have fin envy, they don't like other fish with flashy fins like your guppies.
When I go fishing I just place a sharp rock in the water and sit there waiting for all the dead fish to float to the top... Kingfisher

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.

We keep a betta in a 10 gallon community with 2 male guppies, a bunch of platys, and snails and RCS, with no issues whatsoever...this is the tank we just put the skull in, lol, see the last few posts of this thread: http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/aqua...111494&page=30

Of course, Ninja'd again by mommy1 but she is correct. It does depend on the temperament of the betta, when mixed with guppies. Our 2 guppies leave him alone, and he leaves them alone.

Personally, I see no harm in trying him in the 30 gallon, if you are willing to keep a close eye on the tank for a good amount of time to monitor and see if any issues arise

Yeah, I'd keep a close eye on him and keep that 5.5 running just in case you have to pull him out.

You know what this tank needs? ........................ Crypts.

I'm glad to hear it is working out so far.

Keep a real careful eye on him when you add more glotetra. They are pretty docile but might nip. Lollipop is probably too terrified right now to do much. :)
20 gallon with a male betta, neons, glowlights, and red cherry shrimp. (work in progess) Recently added a few LIVE plants and driftwood, Woooohoooo!

One thing you have take into consideration is bettas can be very unpredictable.
It could be going perfect for a long time then all of the sudden overnight it kills a bunch of fish.

As everyone else said, keep a very close eye on its behavior.
