It turns out that my Fluval filter is doing fine : )
The manual it comes with states it will function fine up to 230volts so I just need to stick an adaptor plug on to the end of the plug so it fits into an outlet.
My next question is this: I need to replace my hood which is available at Petsmart - however, I need to get a new hood light - any brands I can look for that will function with 220voltage?
I gave away my fish yesterday and sold my plants (to a guy who has a 75gal that isn't fully stocked)- it was surprisingly easy although it's depressing looking at a dark, mostly empty tank now.
I should mention I intend to get "easy" plants as I did in my current tank (unless they aren't available where I'm going - I hope to get plants locally) - I had moss, some swords, java fern, etc. so I assume I should just get the same wattage as my current light?
