  1. Default Bolivian Ram Substrate?

Has anyone here at AC used Black-diamond sandblasting sand successfully with Bolivian Rams?

*I've researched and found little. After researching Bolivians, I'm not sure the black-diamond sand is a good idea.
That's bad cause Ive already set-up tank and ready to cycle.

I don't know if this helps but i have black sand, not Black-diamond sandblasting sand with GBR and i Don't think i have a problem. and I have seen tanks with discus and rams with sand sub-strait.

What exactly are you using for substrate (product name)? Is it quartz or slag?

And...do GBR's sift sand like Bolivians.? I only seen mention of Bolivians needing 'soft', sandy substrate.
Both do have 'geophagus' (earth-eater) in name, but I saw no mention of GBRams needing soft sand.

pRED what brand do i use? Petco black sand. My corys like it and the GBR also he will pick at it at times but when you drop a sinking shrimp pellet he gose chaseing it all over. Now that said i belive.it has to do wirh spawing. And how they might prepair a site. But not for sure.

For my GBR's I use Shirakura Red Bee Sand. This is a small baked clay substrate which keeps the water soft and acidic. Primarily used for freshwater shrimp but I found it keeps parameters nice for my GBR. I would imagine it would be good for bolivians too.

I believe GBR's and bolivians do like to sift through sand but it's not essential.
