I'm not sure where they would be, but do be careful about harvesting wild fish in Florida. The feds are very touchy about certain species. Make sure that that one is ok to catch before going out and doing so. You might want to give a better idea of where in Florida you are located. There is a LOT of water there so telling you which rivers and lakes can be exhaustive.

Actually Florida is really lienent - just need a fishing license.

You can find them in a lot of the off shoots of the rivers in the backwater. you need a sain net and a shotgun just in case a gator gets you.

I just know there are a few fish that are protected and it never hurts to make sure the one you want is not one of those fish. I know certain types of small live bearers are protected.

Actually, a large bore rifle would be better...a scatter-gun would just tick an alligator off...

Oh I know about gators trust me I use to live in the north florida swamps we had gators, poisonus snakes, poisonus spiders everything I even had a blaack widow crawl up my arm when I was four and last year when I was raking we had bid water oak trees and a black widow jumped on my neck but now I live in a tiny neiborhood in the tampa bay area.

You are around a lot of good collecting areas. You should be able to google them. Are you guys part of the local club? They would most likely join you and help out in the collecting.
