Default Mystery Killer Fish -- HELP

I'm pretty new to this whole big fish tank thing. All my life I've had a 10 gallon freshwater tank but about 3 weeks ago I started up a 38 gallon freshwater tank. In it I have a peacock eel, two clown barbs, 3 angelfish, one spotted African leaf fish, and a rainbow shark. All of the fish are pretty small right now and I've only had them for about a week. Within the past three days, I've found two of the angelfish dead with their fins chewed off and I'm not sure which fish it is. I believe it's the clown barbs but I'm not sure, what do I do?

Was this tank properly cycled before you put all those fish in it? Since it has only been running three weeks I am thinking it wasn't. The tank is also poorly stocked. Angelfish can be very territorial and three is too many for a 38g. I believe the African leaf fish will choose live food over prepared. The clown barbs should be in large groups. Your peacock eel is iffy, some are active and aggressive and others are not.
I think the combination of an uncycled tank and several aggressive fish in a small tank is what killed your fish.
When I go fishing I just throw sharp rocks in the water and wait for the dead fish to float to the top... Kingfisher
Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes that reason is you are stupid and make bad decisions.

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
Dear naps, sorry I hated you so much when I was a child... Love me

I completely agree. the shredded fins you are seeing could be due to decomposition (fish decompose remarkably fast in warm tank water) or other fish chewing on them after death. I do not think it is likely that another fish killed the angels as you would likely have observed some chasing and nipping going on.
the angels probably died due to water quality issues, as unless you seeded your tank before adding the fish, you are almost certainly not cycled.

Agree. Give us cycling info or ask if your not sure what that is. If you know all about that and did use seeded media and took params and everything is ok then either the barbs or the rainbow shark. Angels are very sensitive to water quality and if the tank was un cycled I'm inclined to agree with everyone else.

dont want to jump on bandwagon, but, tank sounds rushed, not cycled fully, and poorly stocked companion wise. take some time and read up on compatability. it will really bring out more fun for you. good luck.
