Anyone here ever had some part of their system fail
resulting in a good-sized tank spilling the majority of its contents onto the floor
    at the worst time possible?
    *sigh*
for one AC member this is going to be a long, long night...

Ouch. I'm sorry to hear. Hope all the fish are ok, and that not too much damage was done.

Oh don't feel bad, I did a major goof myself today. I was topping off my tanks because of evaporation and wasn't paying attention to the right place. My water is very hard so my tank had water lines. I was watching the water line instead of the water thinking I still had 1/4 inch to fill. I know over filling a tank happens a lot with people using Pythons but I was using buckets. How dumb do you have to be to over flow a tank using a bucket

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.

A couple years ago I went to change out my 4 foot lights in my tank and I had the box with the lights sitting box end down so I had to lift them straight up and out and forgot the ceiling fan was running, still finding glass in the oddest places today...

LOL. I once started to complete a waterchange using my python hooked up to the utility sink in my basement. Before I knew it there was water on the floor as I left a few rags in the sink that eventually clogged the drain overflowing the sink
If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

Well, I sure am glad that I am not standing alone.
I haven't investigated the cause of the leak(when you go to turn the tank lights off and suddenly find yourself standing in 1/2 inches
Of water with a rattling filter and heater high and dry you really have other priorities)
But I think that the fluval canister of the tank sprung a leak, something which I'll investigate closer today.
    The fish(mostly endlers) all apparently
thought it was some giant water change and a great adventure and rushed the glass begging for food when I showed up. They really had no clue.

Filling one of my 55G drums to turn to saltwater I got distracted and forgot it was filling, probably 30 gallons later on the floor I remembered. Thankfully I had a carpet gizmo (that's the Murphy's law part, fully carpeted) to get most of the water up....
