Default Powerheads for a hillstream tank

    0 Not allowed!
I'm looking into starting a hillstream tank so I'm building a manifold system. I'm going to use two powerheads, but I know nothing about them.

The tank is a 40B and I'm thinking I'll need to push 480 gallons an hour. What brands do you guys recommend?

I think I'll go with two Aquaclear 50s. This should push + or - 500 gallons. Any objections? I want to get a good powerhead since these will be running all the time and will be the only source of filtration for the tank. Aquaclear got some pretty good reviews, but who knows, I might have missed something.

When I go fishing I just place a sharp rock in the water and sit there waiting for all the dead fish to float to the top... Kingfisher

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.

I've done the same and found that having twice as many intakes as powerheads created a better flow. I had just one intake and one powerhead, which worked fine but it wasn't moving the amount of water that the powerhead was rated for. I'm not sure of the math but when you reduce a powerheads intake down to 1/2" or whatever size of PVC and run a manifold, it lowers the GPH. Other than that they are super sweet tanks to have and there are tons of different hillstreams to check out.
heres another good article to check out and good luck! Hillstreams rule!
