  1. Default Laetacara dorsigera , Mesonauta insignis Questions

Hello I got these 2 cichlids and i have a few questions regarding them.

Are the Festivum cichlids really shy and i just got a wierd group of them? i read they are a bit shy like to hide but mine are even more currious then my angels, when i put my hand in the tank the angles keeps their distance but the Festivum comes and nipples to see what the **** that wierd thing is :D. Mine are still small around 3" only so maybe they will change with age and size?

Then we have come to the mysterius behavour of my Laetacara dorsigera. As you all know this is a small cichlid about 3.5" for an adult male. My male is extremly aggressive i have never seen a fish this aggressive before, Before he lived with my angels but i was forced to find him and his females a tank for themself since 2 weeks after i got them he killed my large angel male that was the boss of the tank, he was an impressive 7" so he wasn't some small weak one. Right now i can't get closer then about 4 feet of the tank before he slams the glass to get me away, only way to get close enough to feed them is to go in from the side and stand right next to the tank so he only sees my stomach. Have anyone else had this experience with these cichlids? And is there anything i can do to get him less aggressive?,

He's also in the spawn suit, the full black, but he's been in that since i got him 6 month ago, the only times i have seen him out of it was when he was caught the store and when i caught him as he were moving to the new tank.

This ones abit older about the time when i got him

It's very hard to get a picture hes stressing out when ever i get close and swims around trying to be big to make me go away when that fails he rams the glass so pictures have to be quick so i don't hurt him

    Isn't it an Aequidens Pulcher?
To my believe Dorsigeras earlier were called Aequidens Dorsigera. They are sooooo peacefull and not the killer you're describing.

from my experience dorsigeras are very capable of holding their own should any similar sized or even a bit larger cichlid provoke them. however, the thing is they never looked for trouble themselves and ignored other fish unless provoked. maybe you have a severely rogue fish, a different laetacara species or something else entirely.

I've gotta agree that you may have gotten a "rogue" fish. I just put dorsigera in my 75g and have not seen any bad behavior. Every thing I've read about the fish points to their "excelent" behavior.

Mines a little monsters luckly hes a small fish i would never put my hand in the tank without moving him if he were the size of an oscar and other similar sized cichlids. He attacks my hands relentlessly when i put them in.
