I have a 40g breeder with 4 dojo loaches and 6 Neon Blue Stiphodon Gobys. I am also going to add some Hillstream loaches when the LFS gets a nice batch in. I want something that will swim middle to top level though as most of these fish are bottom feeders (even though the dojos are all over sometimes). Any suggestions?

I'm guessing you'll have a lot of current in that tank to keep the loaches alive. White Cloud Mountain minnows and many danio species would fit the bill of a fast swimming, mid to top dwelling species.

actually no not too much current. I have a very large bubble bar that runs pretty much the whole width of the tank and two aqua clears on each corner. I also have a 300gph powerhead that I run several times a week for a few hours each time but other wise it stays off. The fish like to play in it when it is on but its a little bit much for all the time. If I just had hillstreams and neon gobys I would leave it on 24/7 and use my river tank manifold that I built awhile ago.

    What about some mosquitofish
A true aquarist knows what it feels like to step on a sharp piece of gravel
do as I say, not as I do- William
I think if someone thinks clownfish are called nemos they should banned from keeping sw tank.

My favorites would be either platies or zebra danios. Both will thrive at room temp and both are mid/top dwellers.

You can try rosy barbs and / or rosy (fathead) minnows. Both are schooling fish, and you probably shouldn't have more than four or five of the barbs in a 40-gal. I have seven in my 65.

Acclimate all new fish well. I've found that minnows don't do well if they're not properly acclimated.

Glofish danios in a variety of colors, or simple zebra and / or leopard danios are another option.

Stay away from goldfish. Your tank is too small and would be too crowded with them in there.

    Dojos are cute, aren't they?
20 gal. high: planted; 7 white cloud minnows, several RCS, 2 blue shrimp, 5 Amano shrimp, several snails; Azoo air. 65 gal: planted; 6 rosy barbs, 6 yellow glofish, 3 red glofish, 3 zebra danios, 5 white cloud minnows, 3 dojo loaches, 6 crimson spot rainbow fish, 12 large Amano Shrimp, several snails; AC110.
