Ok Ill get back at ya in a few days if his condition is the same and I find any change in the nitrate, or I don't find any change. Nothing new has been added to the tank. Thanks again!

One other thing to consider is injury...even in a seemingly docile tank....just to cover our bases

    Keep us informed

OMG I thought you might want to know you were right! This morning I shook that #2 bottle like a maniac, all the time thinking you were crazy. About the time my arm started to feel like it was going to fall off I added the drops. The color is totally different than all the other times. I wouldn't say its orange like a 5, but it is a really dark yellow now on the verge orange. so its maybe a 2 or 3? God knows what it might be getting up to in 2 more days. Go ahead with "I told you so". Now that we've established that, can we move on to curing that apisto? The patch has grown over night. It now extends narrowly along the top of his body about the length of his fin.

Yes, it's nice to now that I sometimes get things right, LOL. And it's OK to think I'm crazy, you and my wife would get along just fine

It's been discussed here that the color chart card that comes with the API test kit is sometimes not very accurate, many of the colors appear the same, particularly on the ammonia and the nitrate charts. Many of us prefer this to check:

Just hold the test tube up to the monitor to compare the colors.

As far as the fungus is concerned, I've been very fortunate with the health of my fish, and have not experienced something like this before. Here is a database of fish diseases for you to read over, and hopefully one of the experts will chime in with more advice for you:

I would say 90% thats a fungal infection due to fin rot... Someone correct me if they have a better idea from the pics. I have seen these cured with something as simple as adding salt doses to the tank. The article Slap gave you is ok - but I trust using salt for most medical situations as a first try. Formalin or malachite green in whatever form could help but require the use of a qt tank.

Sandz, how much salt would you recommend for the OP to dose in this 25 gallon?...any old salt will do?

I know the pics are terrible. Just to help clarify, the patch isn't raised up at all. In certain light it is really visible. If he turns and the light hits it differently it is almost impossible to see. Is that consistent with fungus/fin rot?

Maybe this pic will help, maybe not. He refuses to give me a good pose. This is from today and at least shows how fast it spread.
