The “aside from the pump, which is more of a vibration noise” is exactly the sound hubby does not want to listen to though, so we’ll see.

Dangit, I multi quoted a whole bunch of yappers and only the last quote took.
You can hide the pump in your shelving unit and it won't make much noise. There are very quiet pumps out there.

2 more shoals umm *blushes* – perhaps I need to give my entire stocking wish list at once. (yikes)
I’m wanting 2 schools of bottom dwellers, still too. Corydoras sterbai will be but one. I will be looking at a second bottom dwelling school too. Yasuhikotakia sidthimunki (this is the Dwarf Chain Loach) are still under serious consideration for the second bottom dwelling school. Corydoras metae are also a consideration. I'll likely pick between those.

There will be two schools on the bottom, though. That much is known.

No on the hatchets – although these graced my very first drafts of the FishWishList and I greatly admire them – because I have to pull the glass top off completely way too often to make me feel comfortable with any jumpers.

Thanks for that tip. I’ll remove the Flames from my list. Harlequin Rasboras will be my second top/mid school.
Yay to get that determined! It just feels right, and so that’s what it’ll be.

    Regarding the new filter:

4 schools total. OK. Cherry Barbs may be out then. Lol I was plotting to put in 6. This is pretty far down the line though.

You can install it anytime...the sooner the better...and start growing a brand new colony of BB!

Rinse the bio media that comes with it (and any extra you buy) in tap water, it's very dusty...then let air dry before putting it in

I like to keep this stuff on hand, for extra media: http://www.amazon.com/Fluval-Biomax-.../dp/B000HHSG5M
Thank for that ^. I took notes again. I don’t think I let my current filter’s media air dry after I rinsed it and stuck it in there. Then again, it did not matter as I had no fish. I’m glad you thought to tell me this with the new filter.

I'm pretty sure she's utilizing a 120gal Sump as her filtration, but we should double-check that.
    A sump. Oh…
That one is a long story of my newbie naiveté ….

I wanted to stop here for a moment and thank everyone who gives their input. All of this helps me sort my mind and figure things out! I am one who totally needs the …… space -- the place – to do that in. thank you, AC chatterers.

Back when I was just ready to start cycling this tank and purchased my first (of many) filter, I walked into this store with the brand names I was interested in, hoping for recommendations. I spotted my preferred brand name on a shelf and asked the sales guy about it. (He told me later that he thought I knew what I was doing... boy was he mistaken)

I walked out of there with an Eheim Sump pump @ 630 GPH for my little 40 gal tank...

I think you can have the Flame tetras. The two I have are in with guppies and I've never seen any nipping. You've got neons and they have very tiny fins. I wouldn't worry about nipping. But if you feel better with the harleys then by all means roll with them. :)

You know what this tank needs? ........................ Crypts.

    ^ too much.

And I did not know until later that this particular store only gives store credit instead of refunds. But that is alright, as I'd already determined all of my stock would come from them.

Flame tetras are certainly very pretty fish...

lol, nice flow! That would have been something to see in a 40gal. =X Right now I'm envisioning my angelfish in that flow. Poor guys are swirling around like they're in a washing machine.
