I spent some decent coin and got a tempur pedic as well. Its a good bed, I don't wake up with back pain any more.

I think tho, that we spend too much on these names. For my guest bedroom, I bought the cheapest bed I could find - it was only 300 bucks - and spent 150 on a good foam topper - people literally tell me they sleep better at my place than they do at home.
I think my next bed, will be something a little less pricey, but with a good memory foam topper.

Another point, when testing foam mattresses, you need to give it some time for your body heat to warm the mattress - it becomes much softer when warm that it is sitting in a showroom.

@Sheamurai, I think it is pretty easy to make a bed that does well new, but the challenge is one that is still good to sleep on after 5 years of nightly use. OTOH, for a guest room durability isn't much of a concern.

I'm pretty impressed that you can get free shipping on a mattress from Amazon. Continues to impress me. Looks like you can get a Washer and Dryer too. Soon enough they'll be able to send a car to your door lol. Not sure what you'd need it for though since you would never have to leave your house anyway.

    Negotiation time...

Found the mattress I like, waiting for the SO to approve.

Two stores in the area that I liked:

    Raymour & Flan
$1399 for bed/box - was $1699 but came down when I told them about the offer from Metro
    Warranty: $80 to return/swap within 45 days
    Frame: $80

    Metro Mattress
$1260 for bed/box (offer only good for last night) - aka HIGH pressure sales
    Warranty: $100 to return/swap within 30 days
    Frame: $100

So... from your experience you think I can get anymore out of R&F

With high pressure sales, you're salesperson is probably making some form of commission. You can play this to your advantage because you know that anywhere above the point of losing money, the person would prefer to make the sale than not. They don't want you to walk, but I would be really surprised if they let you walk again just because they said it's only good for last night. They may want you to think that, but I doubt the salesperson will actually let you walk out the door.

You can win by getting them to tell you how much they need to make, and by not telling them what you're okay with paying, because salespeople usually have ways to recoup costs if they have to tell you a low price up front. They nickel and dime their margin back into it by the end.

If you're willing to play games you can probably do well at Metro, but the lower cost for return and longer timeline, as well as the lower cost frame don't make up the difference at R&F but you may pay less or it may be worth paying the extra to avoid the games.

Just my .02 cents from someone with commissioned sales experience.

Well went and played the games for round 2 with R&F, but after leaving and doing some math, other than the $100 in savings I came up with by choosing a lower quality box spring (not the one from the matching set) the sales guy only took $18 off of the advertised price, yet was telling me he could do more than the 15% he was giving me

I do know that Costco also sells mattresses, if you know what kind you want you may find a good price there. I know their product warranties are pretty amazing.
