Blue Acara question
I'm looking for another cichlid tank mate for my blue acara in my 55 gallon tank. Currently I have the blue acara, 5 black skirt tetras and a pleco. I originally wanted to add a pair of keyholes but after searching around locally for them for a couple months it seems I might have to go in another direction. One local store said they hadn't seen any keyholes in over a year. So I was thinking of some options (listed in the order I would prefer):
get another blue acara and 1 firemouth
get a pair of rams
get a pair of festivum
So I guess my question is, would I have a problem with any of these 3, 3 cichlid combos getting along? And does anybody have any experience with any of these combinations?
I understand that all fish have different personalities and nobody can predict what will work.

I have kept blue acaras with firemouths and had no problems. However, cichlids can be unpredictable as you have already stated.
You will have the best chance of success if you stick with one acara and one firemouth and use plants and/or driftwood to define different areas within your tank. If you end up with a male / female blue acara combination and they spawn, you may not be able to keep other cichlids in there as the acaras will aggressively defend their eggs and fry.If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.
