Thanks everyone and I know I need live plants. LOL..I've been at this since 2008 and the whole live plant thing is still a challenge for me. It's funny because I've got a green thumb when it comes to gardening out side, learned that from my father.

    Stocking...I'm open to suggestions.

I know about the vid "disabled by request" thing, William is looking in to that. I just opened a youtube account last night so I could upload and post the video, so it might be a setting I screwed up there? Thanks for the comments.

When in doubt, do a water change.

    Check this: http://shop.plantedaquariumscentral....age_p_209.html

This is where I bought my plant set for the 40B. The one I bought was for a 20 gallon, and you've seen my tank, it was plenty of plants for my needs..

They sent more plants than advertised, all arrived in great shape and healthy, and all are thriving today (besides an anacharis, which I intentionally pulled when it grew out of control...transferred some of it to my 10 gallon)

I would buy from these guys again....but, they are not the only ones who offer beginner plant sets (Aquabid, etc)

Great, thanks for the link. I really like the Cryptocoryne Wendtii bronze or red that you have in your tank, looks great. How deep is your sand bed?

No prob...my sand is actually probably TOO deep, maybe 4" at the most in some areas, but I try to poke and prod it when I can, to help avoid any gas pocket formation...

I had PM'd you a pic of the plant set when it came in, they had given me 'two' of the wendtii...you see how that turned out, I have 4-5 sets of them growing now

I probably need to add another inch of sand to get to 2 inches. It won't be the petco black sand though, that stuff was just to dusty and dirty. I'm thinking of adding some black diamond is I can find it. I did see your picture Matt and thanks for that.

I'd consider a bolivian ram, laetacara curviceps, or another tetra shoal.

yeah, you're gonna want at least 2", the vals, the wendtii, and the Amazon swords need that sub to be deep enough to really get a good root hold going

I only have 1 to 1/2 inches for a base - part sand, part eco complete. My wendti bronze have grown like crazy in my 30. They are beautiful plants. Some are at least 6 inches tall now.
I also dose once a week with Flourish complete. makes a big difference.
