  1. Default Give up on Panda corys :(

Got 6 from my friend - within weeks 4 had died .... I thought they were perhaps too small when I got them.
Got 4 from LFS to go with survivors. Within DAYS, one survivor and 3 LFS ones had died.
This morning, the last LFS one died ... leaving me with one of the originals. This is the only one that ever looked well and has also grown considerably.

After the comment here that they looked hungry, I made sure to provide better provision for my carnivores and started feeding frozen. I was actually looking forward to showing you all a picture as I thought they looked well. They became more "shiny" and just seemed so fun and active. The LFS one that died today didn't look well for a couple of days and sort of looked shrunken. I popped him in the (cycled) quarantine tank with his own meal but he just withered away and died. The survivor looks active and healthy, foraging ... lonely.

I just don't think they're the fish for me. Perhaps everything else in the tank is too greedy. Yet my pygmy corys, who are the most timid fish in the tank, are doing beautifully. Have had the same 5 for many months now ... Perhaps I will re-home surviving Panda and increase the pygmy numbers. Everything else in there is greedy as sin.

Well what substrate were they on? was there any thing else in the tank? if so were the other fish effected as well? whats your temp? what are the Ates Ites and ammonia levels reading? If you answer these we may just be able to find out whats wrong.

Sorry to hear about you bad luck with Pnada's I've heard from some people that they are not that hardy and others swear by them. Here's a robust and attractive species for you to try, C. metae.

    Thanks guys ...
I do think the competition was perhaps too fierce on the ground floor ... and my fish were too young/small (about 1 cm) to enter such a competitive environment. I feel terrible! I won't be replacing them. The stocking is low at the moment, but that means I can keep some extra guppies if I get some nice ones out of current fry. Normally I don't keep any, so perhaps I need to stop wishing for things I haven't got and better enjoy the things I have got!

One thing to consider that I have found to be an issue when I was getting pandas is the change in ph from the store to my home.

The store had them in a very low ph, and my ph was higher. It was too much different for the little guys without some long acclimation.

Trillianne makes a very good point, I hear alll the time that if you live in the same area as the the LFS, your water should be the same, but here we all are on different wells and our wells are located on the "swamp land' the government located us on and the city where the LFS is, 2 miles away, is located on more shale and rock.

Our water is hard with a high PH .... My lone survivor is still going strong, growing like a monster.
NEed to figure out what to do with him, now.

Thanks for your suggestions everyone. It's all about learning but in this case was a sad one!
