Well the FedEx truck rolled through the snow today and I installed the new board. Sorry there is only one not two as I thought. The package also contained the end cap with the wiring harness and the underside plastic panel which protects the circuit board. Both of mine were distorted from heat. The unit looks like brand new now and I have my program back on. Honestly this experience really showed me what a helpful company Maxspect is. I phone them up describe my issue and where I bought their fixture from, they FedEx me the parts ASAP with no cost to me for parts or shipping. I was told over the phone what I would encounter with the replacement ( the two circuit board thing was my understanding but after opening the unit up I see where I went astray) and it was as easy as wiring a speaker basically.
Here is a better explanation of what happened to my fixture I found on the net.
There is a potential problem with a small number of the 160w R420R Models
This has been caused by a wrongly supplied inductor, this inductor when the lights are run at 95-100% are creating it to get over hot causing the plastic casings to distort If you have this problem please contact you retailer or us and it will be dealt with swiftly and as soon as possible
Official comment from Maxspect
We have found that a small batch of inductors supplied to us, have a higher running temperature than is suitable for some of the plastic covers and therefore there is a potential risk of the cover deforming. To combat this we have sourced a different type of inductor with a slightly lower running temperature, as well as replacing the plastic cover with one which can tolerate more heat.
Any units that develop a problem are covered under manufacturer’s warranty and will be fully serviced with replacement parts.
We have the parts in and further parts already on the way so should you have concerns please contact us. End of C/P
I fired the unit up at 2:30pm and with my program running the tank temperature has only risen .2 degrees C until now. I am still waiting to see if the cooling fans come on which I think were not functioning with the overheated board. I do have pictures of the process which I will post when I have a bit of time.
I'm a happy Maxspect customer, service like that is hard to find in this hobby.
