I believe your fish may be male but its hard to tell due to age.. Bolivians seem easier to sex, when their adults, than other cichlids but if you go through google there are always mixed answers as to which fish is male or female. I'm sure someone can give you a definite answer but don't use google, you won't get conclusive results. See this link: http://brc.moonfruit.com/#/sexing-guide/4528902946

looks like a female to me but it also does look stressed.
    hows your water quality?
i hear some people say, "i kept a goldfish in a bowl and it lived for a year."
they don't know how lucky they were and all goldfish live at least 15 years in proper conditions.
that is equal to saying my human lived in his closet for 5 years!

I had a feeling it was female as it hasnt got elongated tail fins but I wasnt sure if they would develop later on.

Water quality is very good, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 5. However before it was in my tank it was in my parents tank which has nitrate around 80 (im trying to get it down for them as they are too lazy to do regular enough water changes). It was only in there about a week before I was able to transfer it to mine.

Why would you say it looks stressed? I'll admit it does a lot of glass surfing, im not really sure why though, but I was thinking could it be wanting another Ram?

how long has he been in your tank?
i thought it looked stressed because it was pale and didn't show much colour, and it has some black dots on it. (i think i read somewhere that the black dot means the fish is stressed). if it hasn't been in your tank for two weeks it probably is still adjusting.

Not long, probably around 2 weeks. Its colour is developing, just over the last few days ive noticed little blue/green spots appearing on its fins. It probably isnt very old, it only measures around 1.5 inches.
