Forgive me if I'm wrong but it's not a stem plant. I think you would have to plant with roots. So pulling the plant up and separating the root structure. Like you would from a pot plant, which is an issue because they don't like being moved!

I think your best bet would be waiting for runners?
Special thank you to mommy1, KevinVA and slaphppy7 for all the help, it has not been easy!

Thanks Dan. The leaves were already broken off so I took a chance.
And yikes. I was not aware that wendti crypts don't like being transplanted. I've had such good luck with mine in 2 different tanks. so far, I've transplanted them twice :o( most recently last week. Let's hope they stay as healthy as they look right now...

It may be one of those annoying fish keeping misconceptions but I have read that crypts in general don't like being transplanted. They leaf melt, all be it coming back from the 'dead' afterwards :)

You're probably right but I'm wondering if that's when you transplant them from the store to your tank? Because the water chemistry may differ greatly? When I tried jungle vals, they melted almost immediately - and never came back from the root.
For some reason these w crypts seem to be very hardy. Fingers crossed they continue that way.
    appreciate the comments.

I hope you are right because I like to have a little mess around with my plants and I have just planted a bunch of crypts (no melting yet!) Maybe I can enjoy the same results down the line :)

Wendtii crypts will melt when first put into the tank, but with proper nutrients and a little lighting they spring back nicely

They propagate through runners under the substrate. Suddenly new plantlets are springing up all over my 40B, yesterday during a PWC I found little crypt plants behind the DW in the back of my tank I didn't even know I had, lol

Broken stems you can throw away, they won't grow out of the substrate.

Here's a blurry pict of two that I had just pop up out of the substrate, I did not plant these...the one in the foreground is maybe 5-6 weeks old, the one closer to the coconut cave, maybe 2-3 weeks...that cory had JUST been peeking out of the cave, but of course he wouldn't stay there while I was fumbling with the camera, and came swimming out, lol

Notice the little hairlike structures coming out of the sand, on the left...I'm guessing these are roots from the runner, but not positive about that

I would suppose to transplant these, I would dig down into the substrate and seperate them from the runner...but they're fine where they are, I'm just gonna let them go where they are

I started off with 2 or 3 wendtii crypts, I now have 8 seperate plants (that I can see clearly)

Thanks Matt. My crypts have multiplied too but I've never noticed the new growth. I know that sounds strange. They seem to just spring up over night :o)
I've never had on of these crypts melt - can't explain it but sure not complaining :o)

I see your assassin wanted to have his kodak moment :o)

LOL, yes, the assassin and the cory too

My original crypts from my beginner package melted, then transformed and grew into new plants all over the tank

I wonder if I just dug with a knife around one of the new ones, and cut it from the "runner" root, if it could be transplanted?
